Central Nervous System Diseases Research
We know more than ever about the workings of the brain, yet we still lack treatments that truly improve the lives of people with mental illness. A new approach is needed to discover and develop treatments that will reduce the impact of the worst symptoms of mental illness. Our approach is twofold, we identify brain malfunctions responsible for key symptoms present in a range of mental disorders, and we research and develop targeted treatments for those.
We are confident that identifying and treating the underlying brain malfunctions responsible for major symptoms such as cognitive impairment, across a range of diseases, will bring the treatments needed to improve life for people with mental illness. By having the real-life experience of patients’ front of mind, our research has the potential to significantly improve the lives of people living with Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia and depression.
More than 200 scientists work at our fully integrated CNS drug discovery centre in Biberach, Germany.
Our Discovery Research focus is on:
- Psychiatric diseases
- Schizophrenia
- Depression
- Alzheimer’s disease (cognition)
